Professor Kate Corrigan is one of the world’s leading experts on folklore and occult history and probably Hellboy’s closest friend.
Kate was originally a consultant for the BPRD but Hellboy kept encouraging try some field work. She joined him on an investigation that led to a town of werewolves and her first conversation with a ghost. She joined the Bureau full time and currently acts as Assistant Director to Tom Manning.
Although she can seem comically excited about ancient manuscripts or broken pottery, Kate’s expertise is often invaluable to agents in the field and is taken seriously. There are no simple textbooks that explain exactly how to deal with demons, monsters or supernatural entities; the magic of Hellboy’s world is more chaotic than that. At best, Kate pieces together fragments, passing references in scholarly tracts, finds clues in old literature or diaries and makes a best guess about what kind of evil the agents may be facing and what weapon or tactic has allegedly worked against them in the past.
On a personal level, Kate is the one mostly likely to prod Hellboy into admitting what’s bothering him. She and Professor Broom are the only ones to know some of his deepest secrets.
Kate has no special power but Hellboy is always happy to have her on an investigation with him.
