Professor Trevor Broom is a British academic who has investigated the supernatural and the occult throughout his life.  As a young man in interviewed mystics, attended séances and researched the texts of lost civilizations.  He became versed in several “lost” languages including Old Lemurian which includes the oldest written records yet discovered.

Broom’s first field assignment was in Transylvania where he aided the local authorities in the destruction of the vampire Blood Countess, ERZSEBET ONDRUSHKO.  Only Professor Broom and a priest survived that encounter.

As a member of the British Paranormal Society, Broom was requested to accompany a squad of commandoes for the attack on Castle Drachespitze where intelligence suggested that the Wotanic Circle was going to use black magic to bring victory to the Axis powers.  They were successful in disrupting the  ritual and the small demon that was summoned, dubbed “Hellboy,” fell into the care of the Professor.

The two developed a father and son relationship and Professor Broom officially adopted him in 1946.  During this time, Broom became the first director of the newly formed Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense.  He eventually stepped down and retired from active field work until the incident at Hampton House in upstate New York.

Although Tom Manning is the current director of the BPRD, the agents defer to the Professor’s wishes, recognizing him as the father of the organization and the one who brings humanity to its decision making.
